From 2012hs.igem.org

This is a template page. READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
You are provided with this team page template with which to start the iGEM season. You may choose to personalize it to fit your team but keep the same "look." Or you may choose to take your team wiki to a different level and design your own wiki. You can find some examples HERE.
You MUST have the following information on your wiki:
  • a team description
  • project description
  • safety information (did your team take a safety training course? were you supervised in the lab?)
  • team attribution (who did what part of your project?)
You may also wish to add other page such as:
  • lab notebook
  • sponsor information
  • other information
REMEMBER, keep all of your pages within your teams namespace.
Example: 2012hs.igem.org/Team:NewLondonFarquizzles/Our_Pets

You can write a background of your team here. Give us a background of your team, the members, etc. Or tell us more about something of your choosing.

Tell us more about your project. Give us background. Use this as the abstract of your project. Be descriptive but concise (1-2 paragraphs)

Official Team Profile

Contents

Team

We are young and upcoming biomedical scientists from the Science and Technology Magnet High School in New London, CT.

Team Members:

Giselle S., William K., Zakkiyya G., Trajan M., Tajee J., Natoniah W., Khushbu P., Thomas G., and Mrs. Farqhar.

Project

We are planning on creating an intervention which will enable a yeast cell to detect and alert consumers to high levels of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is produced by the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels and can come from an oven or furnace that is working improperly. This gas can be deadly due to the ability of carbon monoxide to bind to red blood cells more readily than oxygen therefore results in cell death due to oxygen deprivation. The yeast carbon monoxide detector would be preferred over the traditional carbon monoxide detector as it will operate without the use of electricity. The materials will provide a green opportunity to protect your loved ones from carbon monoxide death.

The intervention will cause the yeast to glow red and release a strong odor to alert the consumer of danger.

Further information will be posted soon.

Notebook

Day 1 : (March 19th)- Hypothesized and completed project description.

Day 2-3 : (March 26th - April 2nd)- Looked at and found, on the iGem material catalogue, the items needed to acomplich the project goal.

Day 4-  : (April 16th - April )- Formulated the procedure for the production and development of the yeast powered Carbon monoxide (CO) detection unit.

Results/Conclusions

What did you achieve over the course of your semester?

Safety

What safety precautions did your team take? Did you take a safety training course? Were you supervised at all times in the lab?

Attributions

Who worked on what?

Human Practices

Our project is designed to be an eco friendly and green for of a carbon monoxide dectector which is to replace the existing ones currently in use that rely on electricity to function. This product will appeal to those who are enviormentally concered and the people who are concerned for their own safety and desire a more reliable form of carbon monoxide detection.
